Inland Cat   Member Standings

News from the Inland Cat Class Sailing Association (ICCSA) - Lake George Fleet 9-1-07

The final race of the Lake George Inland Cat Sailing Association was a modified triangular course. Patchy wind that veered from east to southeast and back again frustrated the skippers. And because Lake George was one of the few lakes in Steuben County where power boating was allowed, wave action added to the trying afternoon.

Even so, Rick Ahaus of Richmond and Lyle Reiff of Lake George easily outdistanced the remainder of the fleet, finishing first and second respectively. Ahaus’s win allowed him to move from second to first place in the season standings as well. Jonathan Larimore of Plymouth, Michigan, finished third.

At the final party of the season on Saturday night, five trophies were awarded to the top contenders in the Gold Fleet, three to the Silver Fleet, and one to the newly established Novice Fleet. The Gold Fleet racers count their best eight races to calculate their seasonal average. The Silver Fleet racers count their best seven races from the twelve race season; the Novice Fleet, their best five races.

The prestigious Frankhouser Sportsmanship Award went to John Hendrickson of Lake George. Pat Bell, wife of last year’s winner of that award, made the presentation, emphasizing Hendrickson’s gentlemanly conduct on the race course as well as his contributions, and those of his entire family, to the club. Bell received an engraved keeper plaque honoring her late husband. She presented the traveling trophy, an impressive silver loving cup, to Hendrickson.

Also at the final party, the club elected new officers. This season’s Vice-Commodore, Jim Larimore of Fishers, moved up to Commodore. Matt Hendrickson of Ft. Wayne was elected Vice-Commodore. Stan Ferguson of Lake George will serve again as Treasurer, and Kirsten Meyer of Defiance, Ohio, as Secretary. Stan Parrish of Ft. Wayne and Tom Kearns of Lake George will continue as advisors. Past-Commodore Don Schmidt of Ft. Wayne will remain on the Executive Committee for one additional year.
